Baltimore Public Works Museum
One of Baltimore's many firsts is its Public Works Museum. Located in the Southwest quadrant of the Eastern Ave. pumping station, it is the first US museum dedicated to the history of municipal services. The building itself is a sight to see. The steel-frame, brick-face building is a collection of architectural styles with a Second Empire body, a Victorian copper roof, and a single large industrial interior. Exhibits cover such topics as the city water supply, waste disposal, and road and bridge construction. Among the main attractions are "Construction Site," an interactive display for children, and "Streetscape," a life-size recreation of utilities running beneath the street.
